IBM Stand Alone LTO Drive
Gain 50% more capacity and store up to 45TB of compressed data per cartridge with next-generation LTO Ultrium 9 technology
Overview
The IBM Stand Alone Drive family is a half-height drive with LTO Ultrium 9 technology. It forms part of the IBM Tape portfolio. IBM Storage or third-party storage management software can extend the power of the Stand Alone Drive tapes.
As data continues to grow exponentially, cost and security have emerged as the top storage challenges. Tape technology can help enterprises of all sizes handle these challenges by providing a low-cost, high-volume data storage solution.
Incorporating the latest Linear Tape-Open (LTO)® Ultrium® technology, the IBM Stand Alone Drive family is designed to help small and medium businesses handle the growing data demands of modern tape use cases like cloud, Internet of Things (IoT) and active file archive. It is an excellent choice if you require backup and low-cost, archival storage of data.

Benefits
Reduce storage costs
Gain 1.5 times the storage capacity in the same footprint. Store up to 45 TB (compressed) per cartridge—5-% higher capacity than previous-generation LTO cartridges.
Simplify data management
Make tape-based data easy to access. IBM Storage Archive™ supports the tape-oriented IBM Linear Tape File System™ (IBM LTFS) which makes it easy to find and access data.
Help meet compliance requirements
Enhance security and compliance with data encryption and Write Once Read Many (WORM) support.
Improve space efficiency
Optimize space by installing either on a desktop or two TS2280s side-by-side on a 19-inch rack shelf. The compact external enclosure enables portability and flexible installation.
Empower your users
Allow users to create, manage and archive—including concurrent copies of content, plus active, inactive, and offsite content, by integrating with IBM Storage Protect™.
Integrate easily
Integrate high-capacity tape backups with a variety of systems running Microsoft Windows or UNIX operating systems using cross-platform, open systems support.
Product Specifications
High capacity, operational simplicity
High capacity up to 50TB native and 150TB compressed helps reduce the need for additional tape drives and cartridges. Use fewer drives to reduce complexity for your tape infrastructure and more than double the compressed capacity of LTO-9 media.
Rack-mounts installation
IBM Enterprise Tape Drives with Fibre Channel interface can be installed on most 19-inch racks through a rack mount kit that provides better space utilization and enables installation and removal from either the front or the back without any tooling.
FC-16 Gb and SAS-12 Gb interfaces
Two different drive generations help optimize drive utilization and reduce infrastructure requirements. Enterprise Tape Drives can be shared on a storage area network through the existing Fibre Channel 16 Gb interface and SAS 12 Gb interface for use in distributed environments.
Protection against cybersecurity threats
Air-gapping enables most tape cartridges to reside in library slots , so they are offline most of the time and are not electronically accesible to hackers or ransomware. Tape provides a robust defense line to offer better protection for sensitive corporate data.
Scalable data protection for most open-systems servers
Supports connectivity to most open-systems servers to help simplify the storage environment and enable flexibility for growth and change in your data center. IBM Storage Protect and other compatible software can be used with IBM Enterprise Tape Drives for storage and tape management.
Intuitive and graphical access with IBM Storage Archive
IBM Storage Archive enables direct, intuititve and graphical access to data stored in tape drives and libraries by incorporating the IBM Linear Tape File System (LTFS) format standard. LTFS compatibility allows tape-stored data to be accessed as if it were on disk or flash storage.
Encryption support
The IBM Enterprise Tape Drives-based encryption and associated IBM Security® Guardium® Key Lifecycle Manager components are supported in a wide range of environments, including select IBM Power® Systems, IBM System x, and other servers running Red Hat® , Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
